(8U(s3t12vpsb10HVersion 1.02
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HDiffences between .01 and .02
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H1. Allows user to pickup Lifescan files.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H2. Fixes Windows Malady.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H A batch file replaces the startup of the program. To
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H start the program, type : METER < return >
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H This fixes the windows message "out of memory".
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H3. Fixes pause time between program and superfast computers.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H4. Save file to selected format for use by spreadsheets.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H5. Numeric file names for saving files.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H6. Printer error bug fixed.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HDISCLAIMER
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HStephen L. Bean disclaims any responsibility for the medical
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcondition of the user. By using this software, the user agrees that
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HStephen L. Bean will not be held responsible for the results
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hobtained while using this software. The software is not designed to
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Htake the place of the advice of a physician in the care and treatment
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hof diabetes, or any other malady.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HEQUIPMENT
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HThe software was originally designed for use by a doctor. However,
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hit can be used effectively by the individual with diabetes to not
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Honly keep a record of glucose readings, but also to present to a
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hphysician the printed reports to assist the physician in management.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HThe program currently requires that you possess:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H(1) One Touch II meter, by LifeScan.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H(2) Serial Cable for One Touch II.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H (We got ours from LifeScan at no charge.)
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HWe have no affiliation with LifeScan or Johnson & Johnson. The
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hsoftware was originally developed by the author for use by the author
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hand his physician.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HREQUIREMENTS:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HA serial cable is required that connects your meter to one of your
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcompute'rs serial ports.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HWe acquired our test cable directly from LifeScan. We hesitate to
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hgive out the phone number to their customer service as we can have no
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Haffiliation with LifeScan. The customer service number can be
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hlocated in the documentation that came with your meter.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HThe cable attachment is a standard 25 pin (DB-25) serial cable on one
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hend for the serial port (1 through 4) of your computer. A converter
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hfor 9-pin to 25-pin is available at local computer stores.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HThe other end (RCA jack) is special for the small receptable on the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hside of the One Touch II meter.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HTHE DATAMGR.EXE FILE:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HOf course, by now you have exploded the zip file or you wouldn't be
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hreading this.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HBut just in case. You should create a subdirectory of your chosing
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hand copy the TOUCH2.EXE file to that directory and type:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H METER
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HTo start the program, type :
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H SUGAR
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HOnce the program is started, you should immediately arrow right to
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H"PROGRAM SETUP" and down arrow to "Drive". Select the drive in which
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthe program files have been placed. Hit <Enter>.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HSelect "SUBDIRECTORY" and type in the name of the subdirectory where
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthe program files have been placed. You do not need anthing by the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hname unless you have made a third level or lower directories, then
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hremember to place the "\" between them.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HSETUP
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HA setup routine is available in the main menu. You can select which
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hdrive you wish to save the result files. The program will run on any
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hfloppy disk depending on the size and number of saved files.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HDO NOT change the SPEED setting here ... UNLESS you have changed the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hspeed setting of your reading meter. They must be the same. The
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hfactory default is 9600.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HIf you do not know the communications port you are dealing with, you
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcan experiment here with ports 1 through 4 until you can communicate
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hwith your meter.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAmerica On-Line(R) has help for locating "Comm Port Conflicts" (more
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthan one device on a port) and other communications problems. Look
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hunder "HELP" and arrow to the desired topics on America Online.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HIf you have problems with communications in windows:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HFrom your MAIN menu in windows, select PORTS, and then the port that
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hyou will be using for your meter. Make sure that the port is at
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H9600, 8 data bits, NO parity, 1 stop bit. We tried both Xon/Xoff and
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HHardware flow control and both worked. These settings should be the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hdefault. If you have not touched them, they should be OK.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HLOADING DATA:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAny work with the meter requires that the meter be turned on, and the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hdisplay flashing "INSERT STRIP" for communications to take place.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HNotice that you can load data from a saved file, or from the meter,
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hor load a Lifescan file. When selecting "Load from Disk" there are
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Htwo files already available for you to play with. You can delete
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthem or use them as you wish. There is a LifeScan@ file also
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Havailable (TOUCH.FIL).
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HIf the meter becomes locked, or the programs cannot communicate with
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthe meter (5-10 seconds), turn off your computer and start over. We
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hhave experienced rare instances of this, but cannot force or
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hduplicate the issue on purpose to correct it.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAt the suggestion of one of our users, we are including an option to
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hload an existing file from the meter using Lifescan's software.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HTheir software is free. Be sure to ask for it when you request a
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcable. The meter file must be produced with the meter set at:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H 2400 time and MG/DL
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HSAVING FILES:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HThink Ahead! Use a naming convention that will tell you what you did
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hin the future. DOS file naming conventions apply. You can add a
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hfile extention, but remember to add the period before the extention.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HNotice when selecting "Load from Disk" that there are two files
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Halready available for you to play with. You can delete them or use
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthem as you wish. You are welcome to use these file name
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hconventions.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HALL DATA IN ONE FILE
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HYou can keep adding data to one file. If you elect to do this, enter
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthe name of the file, and you will be asked if you wish to delete the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hold file or append to the old file. Select Append. KEEP IN MIND,
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthat if you did not clear the meter prior to loading, and then elect
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hto append, you will get duplicate data in the file. Makes sense!
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HIn other words, if you wish to keep a file of all data from the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hmeter, you must clear the meter after saving the loaded data to the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hsame file. The utility to "Clear the Meter" is provided. The meter
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcan hold 362 entries, and the graphing only displays 72 of the last
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hentries.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HHINTS:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H1. Be careful when using the option to delete the data from your
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hmeter. It cannot be recovered.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H2. In the Browse function, and if you wish to make a note of the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hspecific reading, highlight the notes field and hit <Enter>. Type in
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hyour note and hit enter to exit the field.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H3. Make sure that the system date and time are correct before you
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hstart the program.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HFILE NAMES
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAny files saved by the program are in the same subdirectory.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H *.WRK are SUGAR saved files.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAny imported files will still remain in their original format and
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hexported (saved) as .WRK files.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HWhen saving files as .WRK only enter the first and up to eight
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcharacters. The file extention will be added for your.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HWhen importing files, enter the entire file name with extention.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HFILE CONVERSIONS:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HIn all cases, load from your meter, a file, or a LifeScan file. From
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthe popup menu select "Convert". Another menu appears ...
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HExcell for Windows - Creates a dBase like file called SPRDSHET.DBF,
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hand the resulting extention (DBF) can be found as an import routine
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthat works with this file. In excell close any open files. Select
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HFile, then Open. Select the drive and subdirectory. At the bottom,
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hselect type of file as "dbase (*.dbf)". The click on SPRDSHET.DBF.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAmazingly, it loads an Excell spreadsheet with the correct data in
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hthe correct columns and rows. Format the columns and rows as normal.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HWe liked the entire entire sheet right justified and then changed the
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hcolumns to math columns as necessary.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HSDF (Standard Data Format) - Check your spreadsheet for a import file
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Htype. This is the entire data represented as its total field length
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hwith no delimiter. It is a very common ASCII text format:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H my name is sarah
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HDelimited - Also a very common data format where each field in a
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hrecord is surrounded by parenthesis and followed by a comma:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10H "my","name","is","sarah"
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HSUPPORT:
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HIf you need help, you are welcome to leave comments, suggestions, and
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hother messages at America Online(c) to BEAN1868. Please leave your
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hphone number in the AOL message.
(8U(s3t12vpsb10HAny anamolies associated with the program will be corrected, if
(8U(s3t12vpsb10Hpossible, as soon as possible, and redistributed through America
